SORCEROUS SIGNALS

The Bone Collector
Have you heard the ancient tale of La Loba,
she is an old woman living in a hidden place,
she waits for lost or wandering people or seekers,
she lives in a place we all know in our souls
but most have never been or seen.

La Loba is the bone collector,
she collects bones of many creatures
but the bones of the wolf
are the most precious.

She scours the mountains, deserts, dry river beds
looking for the bones of the wolf
until she has collected the skeleton,
the whole,
she lays out the elegant figure
on the floor of her cave.

She ponders what song to sing,
when she knows
La Loba stands above the skeleton,
raising her arms and sings,
rib bones, leg bones begin to flesh,
skin and fur appear,
a strong tail emerges.

The creature becomes.

La Loba sings deeply,
the creature breathes,
the desert shakes.

The eyes of the wolf open,
the wolf shakes off its stupor,
leaps up and runs fast away
down the canyon.

Then the running wolf transforms
into a laughing,
free woman,
rushing towards the horizon.

Remember if you are tired and lost in the desert,
you may run into La Loba
and she will show you something of the
soul.
